As any major awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor for introducing of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything that year
- Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
- Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often small games, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles globally continuing this trend for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
